Austin Lifestyle
Welcome to Austin, the capital of Texas, also known as "The
Live Music Capital of the World." Located in the heart of
the hill country, Austin is a beautiful city of hills, valleys
and lakes. With a current population of over 500,000 and over
1,000,000 in the metropolitan area, Austin is the 27th largest
city in the country and ranked as one of the fastest growing
cities in the United States.
Fortune Magazine recently ranked Austin as the 3rd best city in the U.S. for technology based business and quality of life. Austin has more than 850 high-tech firms in operation. Some of the major players in the computer industry in Austin are Dell Computer, IBM/Tivoli, Motorola, Abbott Labs, Applied Materials, National Instruments, AMD and Samsung.
Austin
is also a popular vacation spot with 11,800 acres of greenbelt,
areas of uncultivated land used for recreation around the
community. With 2 lakes within the city limits and 5 more
lakes to the northwest of Austin, recreation includes water
activities such as boating, swimming, water skiing, and more.
The mild winter climate attracts many visitors from the northern
states in the winter.
Austin's
real charm comes from it's natural attractions: the pool at
Barton Springs, the rolling greens of Zilker Park and the
nightly flight of over one million bats from beneath the Congress
Avenue Bridge. Austin is a city for getting outside, getting
busy, and when the day is done, getting down to one of the
100 or so bands that jam here nightly.
Come
visit Austin and find out why locals refer to it as "the center
of the known universe."
